New Phyto-Utilization™ System in Texas

This year, LMS and Brazos Valley Solid Waste Management Agency (BVSWMA) received approval from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to operate a using vetiver grass at BVSWMA’s closed Rock Prairie Road Landfill near College Station, Texas. The system is designed to pump leachate generated from the landfill to a phyto field where it is distributed to rows of vetiver plants. The plants consume the leachate through evapotranspiration, benefiting the facility and environment in numerous ways. The phyto system will consume all of the leachate generated on a year-round basis. BVSWMA is a leading solid waste management provider and advocate for environmental initiatives in the Cities of Bryan and College Station in southeast Texas.
